Moot Hall Keswick

Derwentwater Keswick

Keswick & The Northern Lake District

There is always plenty to see and do at any time of the year in Keswick. This bustling market town has much to offer for all ages and all interests.

For the shopper there is the market which dates back to the 12th Century which is held every Saturday morning in the main market square around the Moot Hall with many varied and interesting stalls selling local produce, arts and crafts to DIY stalls and books. Around the market are a variety of local shops and coffee shops.

For the historian, there is the Keswick Museum showing the History of our town, the Derwent Pencil Factory, the inventors of the pencil back in 1684 and the main producer of pencils over the centuries, the Cars of the Stars behind the main square. For those who don't mind a drive, there is the Honistor Slate Mine with guided tours and activity centre.

For the Art Lover there is the famous 'Theatre by the Lake' a modern theatre, just a stone's throw from the town centre, on the shores of Derwentwater. The Pencil Museum offers courses in drawing/calligraphy techniques.

For the Thrill Seeker there are many activities that can be found on the banks of Derwentwater or on the fells around the town such as 'Go Ape' at Whinlatter Pass.

For the Golfer, what better place to have a round of golf than at Keswick Golf Course, one of the most beautiful settings for a course in the country, flanked by Blencathra, Skiddaw and the Helvellyn Range.

And, of course for the hill walker, from our doorstep are the start of the walks to Walla Crag, Castlerigg Stone Circle, Latrigg and Skiddaw and by using the Derwent Launch there is always Cat Bells. Or for those who like the flat there is also the circuit of Derwentwater, or along the old railway line to Threlkeld.
